Review Process of the ArteActa Journal

Manuscripts offered for publication in ArteActa are first assessed by one of its editors for consistency with the journal's focus, linguistic quality, and adherence to ethical and formal rules (ArteActa's Code of Ethics, Chicago Manual of Style, author-date). Editors are guided in their assessment by the ArteActa Statute and the ArteActa Code of Ethics. If manuscripts are found relevant and sufficient in terms of focus and formal rules, they are prepared for an anonymous review process.

Each accepted manuscript is then separately and anonymously assessed by two independent expert reviewers in a double-blind peer-review process. The reviewers are selected and contacted by the editor in charge of the manuscript. Members of the Editorial Board can be asked to peer-review a manuscript. If the author of the manuscript is a member of the editorial board, both reviewers of the manuscript must be selected from outside the editorial board.

The reviewers will notify the editor within 10 working days whether they will review the manuscript. Then, they will read the manuscript and its appendices, evaluate the manuscript by completing the ArteActa Review Form and submit it back to the editors. Usually, the review is prepared within 30 days from the date of confirmation of acceptance of the review commitment.

The review process results in a) recommendation for publication b) recommendation for publication after partial revision c) recommendation for publication after extensive revision d) non-recommendation of the manuscript for publication. In the case of major disagreement between the reviewers, the editors are obliged to secure a third independent anonymous opinion.

If the manuscript needs partial or substantial revisions, the authors have 30 days to implement these revisions, unless otherwise agreed with the relevant editor.

The editors have the right to decide in which of the forthcoming issues of ArteActa the accepted manuscript will be included.

The authors secure the licenses for the visual and audiovisual accompaniment themselves. Upon the editors's request, they shall provide the consent of the rights holders of these works for their publication on the ArteActa website. The journal is responsible for any unauthorized use of the content.

Essays, reviews, translations, interviews or reports are not subject to the review process.
