The Actor as a Bodily Document - The Amateur Becomes the Expert

Kent Sjöström

ArteActa 2023, 10:84-99 | DOI: 10.62804/aa.2023.010

In contemporary discussions about science and politics, truth and post-truth are prevalent, in addition to fake news and alternative facts. The extended use of social media and alternative news, and the technical possibilities for manipulating all kinds of documents allow for a critical and suspicious gaze, where even well-established science might be disputed. In theatre and film, dramatic material can be more or less documentary: it can range from fiction, as in an ancient drama, to day-to-day observations and documentary events from someone's everyday life. The boundaries are often blurred, even in the case...

From Solitaires to Solitaires: Real-Time Choreography in the Czech Context

Michaela Raisová, Bohumíra Eliášová

ArteActa 2023, 10:1-24 | DOI: 10.62804/aa.2023.007

The authors present the second part of a two-part series in which they introduce the phenomenon of dance improvisation and instant composition (real-time choreography). In the first part, they introduced to the Czech readers (in Czech) for the first time the context and historical development of this artistic discipline. In the second part, they focus on how the postmodern stage format of instant composition progressed onto the Czechoslovakian and later the Czech artistic scene in the 1990s and 2000s. Through a concrete selection of individual Czech and Slovakian artists, companies and performances, projects and festivals, the authors map the Czech...

The paper summarizes new findings of a group of researchers who have been experimentally investigating the topic of the portability of acoustic spaces over a period of two years. Their focus is on the specific relationship between music and space - in particular, the transfer of the listening experience from an ambisonic distribution of spatial sound to a binaural. This paper examines not only how differently the work sounds in both situations, but more importantly what needs to be done to maintain the desired spatial expression in both situations. This term - analogous to other musical parameters such as melody, rhythm, dynamics, and timbre - designates...

Inspirace poetikou Ernsta Jandla v současné české a rakouské dramatice na příkladu her Niekur a fake reports

Zuzana Augustová

ArteActa 2023, 10:55-83 | DOI: 10.62804/aa.2023.009

The study reflects on the overlaps between different cultures in the plays Niekur by Kateřina Rudčenková and fake reports by Kathrin Röggla, and especially on the linguistic and formal stylization of both works, which the authors classify as post-dramatic works for the theatre. Both authors were inspired by the linguistic stylization of Ernst Jandl's play From Abroad, which foreshadowed the post-dramatic texts. In Niekur (2006), Kateřina Rudčenková traces Czech-Lithuanian, Czech-Lithuanian-Russian and, marginally, Czech-German relations. The play fake reports focuses on Germany's relationship with America...
